The Zero-Waste Shampoo Revolution

At No Waste To Go, we’ve been dedicated to providing refillable home and body solutions for almost 7 months. While we've received countless inquiries about shampoo, we took our time to bring it to the shelves. Why? Because finding a product that is both sulfate-free and truly zero-waste is surprisingly difficult—until now.

The Plastic Problem

We’ve always loved the idea of shampoo bars. These solid, waterless cleansers are essentially packaging-free (or require very little of it). This is a massive win for the planet, considering that 80 billion plastic bottles from shampoo and conditioner alone end up in landfills every single year.
Plastic Problem

Why Your Hair Hates Regular Soap

Most shampoo bars on the market are actually just soap, made by saponifying oils with lye (NaOH). While soap is fantastic for the body because the skin’s acid mantle recovers quickly, it’s a different story for your hair.

The issue is pH. Properly made soap is usually basic (around a 9 on the pH scale). When something alkaline touches your hair, the cuticles open up, leaving your strands drier, frizzier, and more prone to damage. To keep hair smooth, you need a product that helps close that cuticle.

The Innovation: The Syn-Det Bar

To solve the pH dilemma, we developed our shampoo bars using a different approach: the syn-det bar. We use a gentle blend of:
  • Coconut-derived surfactants: (for that satisfying foam).
  • Soap-berries powder: (a natural saponin source).
This combination keeps the pH of the finished product between 5-6, which perfectly matches your skin and hair. It cleanses effectively without forcing the hair cuticle to stick out.

How to Use a Shampoo Bar

Switching to a solid bar is easy:
  1. Lather: Stroke the bar down your wet hair a few times, or rub it between your hands to create a lather.
  2. Massage: Gently work the foam into your scalp and hair as you would with liquid shampoo.
  3. Dry: Leave the bar out to air dry on a soap dish with proper drainage.

Small Bar, Big Impact

It’s hard to give an exact number, but one bar typically lasts for 20-25 washes. Because they are highly concentrated with minimal water content, one of our bars can do the job of a 500-750ml bottle of commercial liquid shampoo. That’s a lot of plastic saved!

Pro-Tips for Your Bar:
  • Keep it high and dry: Use a draining soap dish. Don't let your bar sit in a puddle of water, or it will turn into "goo."
  • The Lather Factor: Our bars use mild, natural surfactants. You won't get the "explosive" fluffy bubbles of commercial chemicals, but you will get a gentle, effective foam.
  • Rescue Mission: If your bar ever gets waterlogged, just set it on a dry dish for a few days to let it harden back up.

Making the switch to a soap-free shampoo bar isn't just a trend; it's a commitment to better hair health and a cleaner planet. Join us at No Waste To Go and make the "Better Zero-Waste Choice" today!
